Grupo RAPET is a company that recycles as much plastic as possible with the maximum added value. The idea for this project came from its founder and CEO, Rodrigo Miles, when he had the opportunity to buy an abandoned PET grinding plant, which he started up and began operating in 2015. Today the company employs more than 45 people directly. Currently, Grupo RAPET recycles about 500 tons of bottles per month (this is equivalent to a professional soccer field by 1 meter high of crushed bottles per day) and transforms them into flakes (resin) that are used in different industries. PET flakes are the result of grinding, washing, and drying PET, and are used, for example, to manufacture new bottles, textiles, food trays, resins, paints, straps, and bristles for brushes or brooms. The company purchases the bottles from cooperatives, municipalities and companies (mainly cooperatives) throughout Argentina. The main goal of Grupo RAPET is to increase the percentage of plastic that is recycled in Argentina, which is currently only 25%. This means that 3 out of every 4 bottles that are consumed end up in an open dump, in a river, or in the best case, buried.
