Our sustainable mission

We’re a social enterprise committed to giving a “Second Life” to plastic waste. By working in partnership with local collectors and recycling initiatives, we believe that companies can be part of the solution to support circular plastic supply chains and generate new sources of incomes for vulnerable communities. Our goal is to cover all island territories in Thailand and Indonesia, with a goal to collect and recycle 50,000,000 kgs per year from these beaches and island communities. To date, we have already collected and recycled 2,000,000 kgs and our network continues to expand.

Second Life is a market-based solution that supports informal collectors on remote islands in Thailand and Indonesia. Collecting plastic from islands and beaches is a labour intensive process, with high costs associated with delivering ocean plastic back to the mainland to be recycled (e.g. boat fuel costs per delivery). Provincial waste management on these islands is usually disorganized and lacking. This means that, normally, without Second Life engagement, plastics on these remote islands were simply buried on beaches or open-burned by the community. By giving value to this plastic waste, and helping pay for these extra costs (e.g. boat fuel), Second Life has established a network of ocean plastic collectors on these islands. Often coming from vulnerable and impoverished communities, collecting and delivering this ocean plastic to be recycled is not only a great way to keep their environment clean, but also another source of income and livelihood. All deliveries of waste are recorded, with pictures of delivery and receipts of evidence and payment taken upon each daily delivery by collectors. Second Life is also the 1st plastic project independently audited and certified under the Plastic Waste Reduction Standard, the only global plastic collection and recycling framework by environmental standards organization Verra (https://verra.org/verra-issues-first-plastic-waste-reduction-credits/). Second Life was featured as part of a National Geographic Archive documentary "Full Circle" (2022). --- Launched in 2020 by Tristan Lecomte, in partnership with French cosmetics brand Caudalie, Second Life is a part of the PUR Projet group (www.purprojet.com), which is specialized in the development of ecosystem regeneration projects in over 40 countries worldwide.

What is a Plastic Credit (PC)?

The Plastic Credit (PC) is an NFT. The PC is rooted in real recovery data and is accessible for anyone to view. The information is stored on the blockchain for transparency, and traceability and is represented as a digital certificate.

A PC is proof that plastic was recovered and recycled.

You will receive the PC when you support the recovery of plastic. The images shown are from the flora & fauna from the location where the plastic is recovered.
